Shadow Business Secretary Ed Miliband says investment in the ‘green’ economy could provide a post-coronavirus jobs boost.

Labour is urging the government to invest £30bn in more sustainable industry and infrastructure over the next 18 months, potentially creating around 400,000 new jobs.

It comes as figures from the Office for National Statistics (the ONS) show a record 314,000 redundancies were recorded in the three months to September as COVID-19 took a further toll on jobs.

The unemployment rate rose to 4.8%, its highest level since November 2016 and up from 4.5% in the previous quarter.
