From 2nd November Scotland will enter a new 5 tier coronavirus system which will regulate health restrictions in the country.
The system will go from level 0 to level 4 and will be implemented depending on the spread of the virus in different parts of the country. The Scottish government has said they will aim to keep schools open at all levels, with tier 4 representing a near full lockdown.
Previously Nicola Sturgeon announced a set of restrictions to tackle a new outbreak of coronavirus in Scotland, which saw some pubs closed and the sale of alcohol restricted in the central belt of the country. On Friday 18 deaths and 1,401 new cases were reported in Scotland.
The new tier system is similar to the one already in place in England, instead it adds in two new tiers – one below and one above the restrictions in place south of the Scottish border. Ministers in Scotland say the new tier system could be in place until a vaccine or effective treatment is found for coronavirus.
At level 0, which sees the least restrictions, three households can meet indoors and outdoors with up to eight people and most businesses will remain open.
Level one sees a new rule coming in where only 6 people from two households can meet.
The second level introduces a ban on households mixing indoors and places some restrictions on the hospitality sector.
Level three sees most pubs and bars closed, with restaurants still being allowed to stay partially open.
Finally level four closes all non-essential shops however six people from two households can still meet outside.
