People looking to get themselves tested for Covid-19 at private laboratories will have to shell out Rs 1,600 from now on in Noida. The Gautam Budh Nagar district administration on Thursday announced that prices for Covid test have been capped at Rs 1,600 instead of Rs 2,500. Prices for the Covid test have been brought down for the third time in the past three months. While initially the private laboratories were commanding Rs 4,500 for examining the sample, the test rate was brought down on June 18 to Rs 2,500 by the Uttar Pradesh government. District magistrate Suhas LY said, “We will ask private laboratories to reduce the test price from existing Rs 2,500 to Rs 1,600 from Friday,” said Suhas. Henceforth, all kinds of tests conducted through the private laboratories (RTPCR, TrueNat, CBNaat or VTM) will be priced at Rs 1600. The officer added that instructions to carry out on-demand test will also be passed on to the private laboratories, as per the latest ICMR guidelines that had been issued on September 10. All this while, private laboratories were insisting on a general physician’s letter prescribing tests before carrying out Covid-19 tests. DM Suhas added, “Labs have to augment their capacity and conduct on-demand tests. And prices have to be brought down to Rs 1600 for the test.” At present a dozen government and private laboratories are carrying out tests in Gautam Budh Nagar district. Among them three establishments are run by UP government (Government Institute of Medical Sciences in Greater Noida, National Institute of Biologicals, Noida and Super Speciality Paediatric Hospital and Postgraduate Teaching Institute, Noida) while the other ones are private.
